Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is healthy now after hurting his ankle two weeks ago (you'll recall that Houston fans cheered his injury rather heartily).

But now he's back and ready to take over stewardship of the Texans offense again. Right?

Nope. Instead Texans coach Gary Kubiak announced Monday that Case Keenum, who was the third stringer earlier this season, would start vs. the Colts on Sunday. And Schaub will be Keenum's backup.

Kubiak also said that this rotation is not set for the rest of the season, so presumably if Keenum struggles, it's entirely possible Schaub could return to the lineup.

Keenum started in Week 7 vs. the Chiefs and narrowly lost 17-16 while completing 15 of 25 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown. Most importantly, he snapped a five-game streak of a Texans quarterback throwing a pick-6.

It's an interesting choice for Kubiak, whose job most definitely is on the line this season and who's now going into a matchup with one of the AFC's best for a nationally-televised primetime Sunday night game with a quarterback who has one career start.

"Gary loves him,” a source told CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora last week. “He's extremely cerebral. He doesn't have that big arm but he fits their mold -- he can extend plays and get out of the way. He understands the system. That's going to be a tough environment but he shows a pulse and moves the team some, I bet he sticks with him after the [Week 8] bye.”

As for whether Schaub is totally healthy, he might not be quite 100 percent. According to NFL.com, Schaub has torn ligaments in his ankle that he'll try to play through for the rest of the season. Unless, of course, he's sitting the bench behind Keenum for a while.
