Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would like everyone to know that he's not trying to start a quarterback controversy in Dallas, despite the ambiguous words that have been coming out of his mouth all week.

Two days after the Cowboys lost to the Giants 10-7, Jones left the door wide open for benching Dak Prescott when he was asked if Tony Romo might get his job back.

The comments were so odd that former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman called him out on Thursday.

In Aikman's view, it basically sounded to him like Jones was trying to give Romo his job back.

"I'm not sure that Tony, if it was left up to the owner, wouldn't be the starter now, just based on the comments that I've heard in the last couple weeks," Aikman told KTCK 1310 AM The Ticket in Dallas on Thursday.

Just for clarification, Jones isn't trying to give Romo his job back. During an interview on Thursday that was held after Aikman's radio interview, Jones put all of his support behind Prescott.

Jerry Jones is now unequivocally backing Dak Prescott USATSI

"We completely support Dak as our starting quarterback unequivocally so that's that," Jones said, via ESPN.com. "And there's no issue there at all. We're very fortunate -- and I've said that -- that we have depth there."

Of course, Jones can't go five seconds talking about the Cowboys' quarterback situation without bringing up Romo, so he also brought up Romo.

"You certainly have got depth in a big way when you got Tony Romo sitting there and that's not trying to be cute," Jones said. "It's absolutely in our best interest that Dak, who is absolutely playing at a level for a rookie that has probably never been seen, and we want him to be able to use that and some degree of that to help us go all the way to the Super Bowl."

Jones also added that he did hear about Aikman's comments.

"[Aikman] might have had sensitivity but Dak doesn't," Jones said. "I'm serious. I don't mean that negatively. I appreciate him saying it. I respect him. But Dak Prescott's No. 1 quality is that he doesn't get distracted."

The Cowboys owner was full of praise on Thursday for Prescott.

"What we are saying here is [Dak] is our quarterback," Jones said. "And we are proud of him and want him to continue to do something that no quarterback has ever done. And that's have the success he is having."

Basically, it sounds like the job is definitely Dak's -- unless he throws five interceptions against the Buccaneers on Sunday. Then it's probably Romo's.
