Vick is banged up again after avoiding a serious injury in the first preseason game. (US Presswire)
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Patriots coach Bill Belichick had it right. He sat Tom Brady and most of his star players on Monday night and they avoided this preseason garbage of a game. Andy Reid did not show the same amount of care with Michael Vick and Vick – again – paid for it.

There were two scary moments in the Eagles’ game against New England. In one, Vick slid head first at the end of a run. Not good. The second hit was worse. He was slammed to the ground landing awkwardly on his side. This led to the Eagles removing Vick from the game and having his ribs X-rayed (the team later announced the X-rays were negative). The helmet of linebacker Jermaine Cunningham caught Vick right under the armpit area.

Remember, Vick missed three games last year with broken ribs.

This after Vick recently hurt his wrist. That’s two big injuries in the freaking preseason. The preseason.

If you believe Vick will make it through the entire season unscathed, you also believe lollipops fly out of the butts of leprechauns. There’s no way unless the NFL grants a waiver and allows him to play wrapped in carbonite.

This is the biggest mystery. Why isn’t Reid taking more care to protect Vick? After last week, this would have been a perfect week to sit him. The gamble blew up in Reid’s face.

Then, after that gamble blew up in Reid’s face, Cullen Jenkins was next, getting into a shouting match with Reid that was caught by television cameras. It was total craziness for Philadelphia.

It’s only the preseason but this is not good especially with Vick. Once again, as he has in the past, Vick’s great talent is only matched by his incredible fragility.
