Fans tend to get rowdy at football games. But there's no excuse for the type of violence that occurred at the Jets-Patriots game on Sunday, when a man in a Jets jersey punched a female fan in the face.

The police are investigating the incident, a Jets spokesperson confirmed to the New York Daily News.

“We are aware of the situation and we do not tolerate that behavior," the team said in a statement. "Parties involved were detained and this matter is now in the hands of the New Jersey State Police."

The video originated on Deadspin.com Sunday afternoon.

As you can see above, it features a fan in a Wayne Chrebet jersey involved in some back-and-forth -- both physical and verbal -- with other fans as he moves away from the concourse. According to the person who sent the video into Deadspin, the brawl originated in the stands.

Fight started in the stands with two girls fighting. And moved out to where I shot the video. Beer was thrown and clothing over the balcony. Security went after the guy. Didn't see what happened after that.

This sort of behavior isn't acceptable, and it makes you wonder where security was. Hopefully the police will be able to find out some more info and hopefully security can do a better job of cracking down on such incidents.
