Big Ten reprimands Bo Pelini, Ohio State OL Marcus Hall
The Big Ten office issued public reprimands for Nebraska coach Bo Pelini and Ohio State offensive lineman Marcus Hall for their behavior in Week 14.
The Big Ten office issued a pair of public reprimands on Monday; one for Bo Pelini's violation of the Big Ten sportsmanship policy and one for the dramatic exit of Ohio State offensive lineman Marcus Hall after his ejection from the Buckeyes brawl with Michigan.
Pelini criticized the officials following Nebraska's 38-17 loss to Iowa, resulting in the public reprimand and a $10,000 fine for the university. While the Big Ten league office did not cite Pelini's behavior on the sideline during the game, it likely did not help his case.
Marcus Hall's reprimand comes as even less of a surprise, considering the crystal-clear double-birds thrown at the Michigan fans after Hall was one of three players ejected from the game.
From the league release:
Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01 states in part that “The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship… [including] integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials. The conference office also issued a public reprimand of the Ohio State football coaching staff for failing in its duty to effectively manage the process of escorting an ejected student-athlete from the playing field to the locker room.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer announced earlier that there were no plans to suspend Hall for his actions, and the school was in discussion with the league office regarding a punishment. Since Hall only received a reprimand, he will be available to play for the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship Game against Michigan State on Saturday.
