Figueroa has been designated for assignment by the Pirates Friday, Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
The 28-year-old has been struggling of late in Triple-A Indianapolis. His batting average has fallen from .372 to .307 over the past 10 games. Figueroa, a career .291 hitter in the minors, has a good knack for getting on base while limiting strikeouts. However, he doesn't bring much to the table for power or speed.
