The Bucks are expected to use the stretch provision on Hawes' contract, David Aldridge of NBA.com reports.
Hawes opted into the final year of his contract at just over $6 million this summer, but the Bucks have little use for the 29-year-old and are apparently interested in opening up a roster spot. By using the stretch provision, Milwaukee could waive Hawes and spread his remaining salary over a set number of years, rather than having the entire $6 million count against the team's 2017-18 cap figure. Hawes appeared sparingly in only 19 games for Milwaukee last season after coming over from Charlotte via trade.
