The Texans traded quarterback T.J. Yates, who was believed to be waived but apparently not, to the Falcons for linebacker Akeem Dent. The trade was announced on Thursday.
Yates, a former fifth-round pick of the Texans, gives the Falcons some needed experience and depth at quarterback behind Matt Ryan. Playing over 13 games, including a five-week stint as the starter in 2011, the Georgia native has 1,100 passing yards and three touchdowns with a rush score and six interceptions and four fumbles lost.
Dent is a former third-round pick of the Falcons. In 47 games (20 starts), Dent totaled 136 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and three passes defensed.
