Shane Victorino, acquired at the non-waiver trade deadline by the Dodgers from the Phillies and a free agent at the end of the season, wants to sign an extension so he can remain a Dodger, wrote ESPNLosAngeles.com's Mark Saxson.
Said Victorino:
"I don't want to be a two-month or three-month rental. I want to be here. Don't get me wrong. I still miss Philly and I still miss everything about that place, but now that this chapter has come into play, there are a lot of other things I look at. I'd love to stay here for the next however many years and win one here."
In five games with the Dodgers, Victorino, 31, is batting .190/.227/.238. He's scored a run.
Victorino is playing out the final year of a three-year, $22 million contract. While his numbers are down across the board, he'll be looking for a raise. He's the ninth Dodger to play left field this season.

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Drew Hutchison, who will turn 22 in a couple of weeks, will have Tommy John surgery, wrote the Toronto Sun's Bob Elliott. Hutchison was 5-3 with a 4.60 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 58.2 promising innings as a rookie.

Jim Thome has a herniated disk in his neck and will be out until at least September, reported Dan Connolly in The Baltimore Sun. Thome, batting .261/.354/.391 in 18 games with the Orioles, with two home runs and six RBI, has been told by doctors that he can't partake in baseball activities for 30 days.

Mets left-handed pitcher Tim Byrdak has an anterior capsule tear in his left shoulder, reported ESPNNewYork.com's Mike Mazzero. Treatment hasn't yet been decided upon, but Johan Santana and Chris Young suffered similar tears and both eventually underwent surgery. Byrdak was relied upon heavily by the Mets, making 56 appearances this season out of the bullpen, and posting a 4.40 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. Opponents were hitting only .180 against him.

In other Mets' injury news, catcher Rob Johnson has a bruised right hand; consider him day-to-day. And down in Triple-A Buffalo, Kirk Nieuwenhuis has a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot, and is headed to Florida for rehab. He could have surgery, too, but the Mets will first assess his treatment options.
