The Nationals signed free-agent lefty reliever Mike Gonzalez to a minor-league deal, the team announced on Tuesday.

Gonzalez, 33, will report to the team's spring training complex in Viera, Fla. Gonzalez had off-season knee surgery and was a free agent. He finished last season with the Rangers after being traded from Baltimore. Overall, he appeared in 56 games between the Orioles and Rangers in 2011, putting up a 4.01 ERA.

In parts of nine seasons, he's 17-21 with a 2.94 ERA and 56 saves, pitching for the Rangers, Orioles, Braves and Pirates. He had 24 saves for Pittsburgh in 2006.
