For the first time in his Seahawks career, defensive lineman Michael Bennett will miss a game. When the Seahawks play the Saints on Sunday, they'll be without Bennett, who's dealing with a knee injury.

And that's not even the bad part. This is:

For now, Bennett is scheduled to miss only one game. But, as Pete Carroll said above, there's a chance it could turn into a more serious situation.

That's not the best news for the Seahawks, a team built on the strength of their defense. Bennett happens to be one of the most important players on that side of the ball. He's Pro Football Focus' fourth-highest graded defensive end in a 4-3 scheme. He's recorded three sacks this year and is coming off a 10-sack season.

His knee issues began a couple weeks ago when he endured a low block by Falcons tackle Jake Matthews.

Bennett expressed his extreme displeasure with Matthews after, calling it "a scary, [expletive] move." Still, Bennett was on the field for 85 percent of the team's defensive snaps this past week, according to Football Outsiders.

Carroll told reporters that his current injury might be related to the injury, though it's not yet confirmed.
