De Los Santos was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday.
The Angels needed to clear spots on the 40-man roster for more promising young players, in order to protect those players from the Rule 5 draft, and De Los Santos got the bump. De Los Santos has enjoyed some success at the upper levels of the minors but he's had control issues in recent years and hasn't fared well against big-league hitters when given a chance.
