Alvarez elected free agency Sunday.
Alvarez will likely have to settle for a minor-league contract this winter as he looks to keep his career going. After appearing in 21 games out of the Oakland bullpen in his age-24 season in 2015, Alvarez waited seven years to resurface in the majors with the Mets. He saw action in just one game for New York in 2022, giving up three earned runs on four hits and three walks over 2.1 innings in relief.
