The Mets selected Alvarez's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

To clear space for Alvarez on the 40-man and 26-man rosters, the Mets designated outfielder Nick Plummer for assignment and optioned reliever Adonis Medina to Triple-A. Alvarez is now up with the Mets for the third time this season, but he went unused on both of the previous two occasions and is still waiting to make his first big-league appearance since the 2015 season.
