The Mets will not cut Jason Bay, and some suitors emerge for Lyle Overbay.

  • Though he’s now a platoon player, Jason Bay will remain a member of the Mets, according to ESPNNewYork.com’s Andrew Marchland. Bay is in the third year of a four-year, $66 million contract with the team. Since joining the Mets, Bay has hit just .238/.324/.371 in 1,063 plate appearances. Bay is owed $16 million next season, and can be bought out for $3 million the following year.
  • The Orioles have interest in recently released first baseman Lyle Overbay, according to The Baltimore Suns’ Dan Connolly. The team inquired about Overbay when he was still a member of the Diamondbacks, and remain interested. The Giants and the Reds have also been linked to Overbay.
  • Juan Uribe could be released by the Dodgers soon, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Dylan Hernandez. Since the team acquired Hanley Ramirez, Uribe hasn’t played much. With Adam Kennedy set to come off the disabled list on Friday, Uribe is a candidate to be cut. Uribe signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Dodgers in 2011, and would still be owed $8 million next year, even if the team cuts him. Uribe has hit just .193/.252/.293 in 164 plate appearances this season.
