Thanks to a five-run ninth inning, the Yankees beat the Blue Jays on Monday night, 7-5. There were fireworks on several occasions. Early on, they came in the form of two different benches-clearing brushes between the teams thanks to exchanging some pitchers thrown at batters (seriously, guys, didn't we learn anything from Jose?).

Later, the Yankees' bats did the talking, starting with Mark Teixeira's colossal clout to tie the game off Blue Jays reliever Jason Grilli:

The normally-reserved Teixeira came with a huge bat flip and even yelled "blown save!" in the direction of Grilli. Here's Teixeira discussing after the game:

He's definitely correct that the Blue Jays are a team that enjoys their own home runs. On that front, they got a taste of their own medicine.

In the process, the Jays' already slim chances of taking the AL East for the second straight season got even slimmer. The loss moved the Red Sox's magic number in the East to one. The Blue Jays still have a one-game lead over the Orioles for the top wild-card spot and a two-game lead over both the Tigers and Mariners for a playoff spot, but those are pretty slim margins.

Monday's loss to the Yankees might end up proving very costly and Teixeira definitely had fun with letting them hear about it. And since he's retiring, he won't even have to worry about any future retaliation.
