David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade results, highlights: 'The Mexican Monster' strikes again with TKO

Monsters do exist. David Benavidez proved that on Saturday night when he forced Demetrius Andrade's corner to stop their main event showdown in Las Vegas because of the damage accrued over six rounds of action.

Benavidez, who previously held the WBC super middleweight crown, defended his interim strap with the TKO of Andrade, 35, and continued to deliver the kind of action many have expected of him at just 26 years old.

"I don't care who they keep putting in front of me, I'm just gonna keep knocking them down," Benavidez said after the fight.

Benavidez took a round or two to get going as Andrade put on a strong showing to start the contest with his defensive skill and distance management. But once he found his footing, there was no slowing down Benavidez. He scored a knockdown at the end of Round 4 that Andrade never seemed to fully recover from. Benavidez then clipped him with a perfect right hook on the chin that Andrade still seemed to be feeling the effects of throughout Round 5.

"I dipped his left hand and came over with a right that hit right on the button," Benavidez said. "I knew I had to keep the pressure on because I knew he wasn't going to keep taking those shots."

After enduring even more punishment in Round 6, the referee went to the corner and warned Andrade for a second time to fight back or he's going to end the fight. Andrade's corner made that decision for him as they said no more.

"I thought overall I did everything I needed to do to get the bigger man off me. David's definitely a hell of a fighter," Andrade said. "Nobody was even willing to get in the ring with him. I tried to become a three-division world champion. That's not far-fetched. David was the man tonight. Congratulations to him and his family. We move on, and we're going to keep pushing."

With the win, the hope is to secure a showdown with undisputed super middleweight king Canelo Alvarez in 2024. This comes after years of calling for a fight with the Mexican champion. Now, that fight feels undeniable unless Alvarez moves weight classes once more.

"I think I just [solidified] myself as, you know, the dominant performer that I am and I think it was a reminder to let everyone know who the f--- the real champ is at 168," Benavidez said. "They want to see me vs. Canelo and that's what we want too. I'm the youngest super middleweight champion of the world, three-time world champion, now just give me the fight that we all want to see. Who wants to see David Benavidez vs. Canelo? Let's get it."

David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade -- Round 6: The doctor comes in to check on Andrade before the bell and the referee warns him that he needs to fight if he wants to continue. Benavidez turns on the pressure once more and Andrade spits out his mouthpiece. Andrade puts what feels like his last bit of offense into a combination and turns Benavidez's chin, but he can't capitalize as Benavidez returns fire and the mouthpiece again falls. It's nearly all one-way traffic from Benavidez at the end of the round and the referee heads to the Andrade corner to warn him again. Andrade's corner finally decides to call it off, and Benavidez gets the win by TKO! Benavidez def. Andrade via sixth-round TKO

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 9: Charlo is just rattling Benavidez now with his power. Every time Benavidez looks to start something up with his offense, Charlo shuts it down quickly and punishes him with counters. One round to go and Charlo is cruising. 10-9 Charlo (Overall: 88-83 Charlo)

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 8: The move up in weight has just become too much for Benavidez to overcome. Fighting above his head, Benavidez is just not the same fighter and he's eating a ton of damage from the natural middleweight in Charlo, who's landing his jab at will to the head and body. It's becoming academic at this point with two rounds to go. 10-9 Charlo (Overall: 78-74 Charlo)

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 7: More of the same from Charlo in this round as his jab is really controlling this fight now. Benavidez just can't find a way around it and he's struggling to muster much offense as Charlo continues to work to the body. Benavidez is an incredibly tough fighter, but it feels like he needs a stoppage or a knockdown to find a way to win. 10-9 Charlo (Overall: 68-65 Charlo)

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 6: Charlo's bodywork is starting to become a real factor now. Benavidez is not moving as well as he was in the first half of this fight and now he's standing right in front of Charlo and eating some big punches. Benavidez is still standing in there with him, but he's taking a ton of damage as a result. Charlo's jab is dominating this fight both to the head and body. Feels like a knockdown is coming sooner or later. 10-9 Charlo (Overall: 58-56 Charlo)

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 5: Benavidez is really trying to make this one ugly with his tactics, but Charlo remains undeterred. Charlo digs into the body while pressed against the ropes after Benavidez clinches him up into that position. Charlo then fires away with straight right hands that land solidly, but Benavidez is staying right in there with counter punches of his own. It's a real fun showdown here, but feels like Benavidez is getting a lot of credit for things that don't score well in rounds. 10-9 Charlo (Overall: 48-47 Charlo)

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 4: Charlo is still composed out there, not letting Benavidez's antics get in his head. He's landing well with his body hooks and jabs to set up the big punches up top. He forces Benavidez to shell up momentarily and lands a five-punch combo. Benavidez starts clinching a bit to end the round and then tosses Charlo after and gets a stern warning from the ref. 10-9 Charlo (Overall: 38-38)

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 3: Benavidez comes out firing to open the round and puts Charlo on the defensive quickly. He isn't able to do much beyond the opening combination, but he's making Charlo think more than he has in the first two rounds about what he wants to do. Benavidez is starting to make this ugly and frustrate Charlo a bit. It's a really interesting chess match here. They exchange at the bell and Benavidez is fired up heading to his corner. 10-9 Benavidez Jr. (Overall: 29-28 Benavidez Jr.)

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 2: Benavidez Jr. has been known for having a granite chin, and it's being tested early. Charlo has landed his jab well here in the second round and Benavidez just kept walking through it. Charlo lands a solid combination and uppercut to keep the pressure on Benavidez Jr., who is trying to find the counter shots, but Charlo's starting to warm up a bit here with the speed and precision. Charlo is up to 23 jabs landed through two rounds, per the broadcast. 10-9 Charlo (Overall: 19-19)

Jermall Charlo vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. -- Round 1: Benavidez Jr. does well to put the pressure on Charlo early, knowing that he may be a step slower after missing weight on Friday. But Charlo keeps his calm under pressure and counters well as Benavidez Jr. tries to land some crisp jabs to the body. As it appeared Benavidez Jr. would close the round with the upperhand, Charlo got his attention with an uppercut that forced Benavidez Jr. to back off entirely. Fun way to start this one. 10-9 Benavidez Jr.

Next up is the co-feature of the night. WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo is set to take on Jose Benavidez Jr. in a non-title bout. Charlo has not competed since June 2021 and is looking to knock off the ring rust without his title at stake. Benavidez Jr. is coming off his first win in five years but has taken on some of the best in the sport in defeats against Danny Garcia and Terence Crawford in recent years.

Ergashev appears to have a problem with his leg as trainer Sugarhill Steward calls for his interpreter. It seems like Ergashev is trying to say he can't put weight on his right leg and it's affecting how he fights and he will not make it out of his corner for the next round. Matias wins by TKO!

Subriel Matias vs. Shohjahon Ergashev -- Round 5: More of the same from Matias as his pressure is just overwhelming Ergashev. The volume and constant pressure is putting a lot on Ergashev to retaliate and he just can't find that extra gear. Ergashev appears to be wearing down quite a bit here and his gas tank appears to be fading fast. 10-9 Matias (Overall: 49-48 Matias)

Subriel Matias vs. Shohjahon Ergashev -- Round 4: Matias has fully turned up the heat now as he has Ergashev cornered with his pressure and volume of punches. Matias pinned him in the corner and landed a handful of shots that appeared to hurt Ergashev, but he survives and fights his way back out with his own combinations of punches. Matias spotted him a round in there, but he feels fully in control now. 10-9 Matias (Overall: 39-39)

Subriel Matias vs. Shohjahon Ergashev -- Round 3: Matias now goes on the offensive and starts to walk through some of those big punches of Ergashev to do so. Matias does well to keep Ergashev pinned in the corner and prevents him from moving around. Matias lands well with his volume and combos, but Ergashev fires right back. We've got a fun fight on our hands here. 10-9 Matias (Overall: 29-28 Ergashev)

Subriel Matias vs. Shohjahon Ergashev -- Round 2: Matias is still stuck in neutral as he's standing right in front of Ergashev and eating big punches without much of a return effort. Ergashev, a natural southpaw, is doing well with his jab and uppercut on the inside. Matias finally wakes up a bit just before the bell and does well to counter the hard hitting from Ergashev, but it's not enough to take the round. 10-9 Ergashev (Overall: 20-18 Ergashev)

Subriel Matias vs. Shohjahon Ergashev -- Round 1: Ergashev comes out firing and gets Matias attention early with a left hand that pushes him back into the ropes. Ergashev continues to keep the pressure up by keeping Matias off balance and making him shell up in a defensive posture. Matias is forced to stay that way for the duration of the round and we'll see if he can get warmed up in Round 2. 10-9 Ergashev

Next up is a super lightweight contest between Subriel Matias and Shohjahon Ergashev. Matias is one of the fastest rising knockout artists in the sport today, with all 19 of his wins coming back stoppage. Ergashev is no slouch himself, either, with 20 of his 23 wins coming by knockout. It should be a fun one here as we inch closer to the main event in Las Vegas.
