Gervonta Davis vs. Hector Luis Garcia results, highlights: 'Tank' scores TKO, sets up showdown vs. Ryan Garcia

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – One Garcia down, one to go.

After a slow start, lightweight superstar Gervonta "Tank" Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) relied on his trademark power to force 130-pound titleholder Hector Luis Garcia (16-1, 10 KOs) into submission on Saturday inside Capital One Arena, in the final step before a proposed April showdown with fellow unbeaten Ryan Garcia.

"God willing, I'm ready for the fight," Davis said. "It's scheduled for April and I'm here. On my end, I'm ready. I'll take a week off and I'll be back [in the gym] for sure."

Davis, a native of nearby Baltimore, kept his poise and focus despite a tumultuous training camp that saw the 28-year-old spend a night in prison the week before the fight following a misdemeanor arrest for domestic assault.

Garcia, a 31-year-old who boxed for his native Dominican Republic at the 2016 Olympics, relied on his technique and length to force the shorter Davis to take his time in the early going. But the action picked up considerably in Round 4 as the pair of southpaws traded big shots at close range.

The action continued until Round 8 when a fight in the first two rows of the crowd caused a bizarre halt to the action as ringside security sorted things out. When the fight restarted, Davis began to walk Garcia down with big left hands and appeared to briefly buckle him before the end of the round.

Garcia, who complained to his corner after the round that he couldn't see, was unable to answer the bell for the start of Round 9, giving Davis the TKO victory to retain his secondary WBA lightweight title.

"I was a little surprised but when I caught him, I knew that he was hurt and that he was hurt bad," Davis said. "He's a fighter and I know he didn't want to show it but he was hurt."

The official time of the stoppage was 13 seconds into Round 9 with Davis ahead 78-73, 78-73 and 78-74 on the judges' scorecards.

"When I got the shots to the head in the final round, I couldn't see anymore," Garcia said.

Despite a game effort from Garcia, who operated within punching range throughout and was willing to trade shots with a bigger puncher, Davis outlanded his foe by a margin of 99 to 55, according to ShoStats. Davis also landed an incredible 53% of his power punches.

"I feel as though I have stuff to work on," Davis said. "I'm a fighter and I'm not retired so my cup is never full. I'm always willing to learn.

"[I struggled] a little bit because I don't fight southpaws that often but it's OK because that's part of the game."

Garcia had enjoyed a breakout 2022, handing the first defeat to Chris Colbert before capturing the WBA 130-pound title over Roger Gutierrez to become a dark horse in the fighter of the year conversation.

After the fight, Davis admitted the only opponent who has the chance to defeat him is himself.

"[I need to] bring my people in close and listen to my close ones and listen to [adviser] Al Haymon and just stay focused," Davis said. "There are a lot of bumps in the road but as long as we stay focused together, that's how I will make longevity in this sport."

The undercard saw Jaron "Boots" Ennis fail to record a knockout for the first time since 2017 as he cruised to victory over Karen Chukhadzhian. Ennis went the distance -- the first time he had been beyond the sixth round -- as he found Chukhadzhian tough to land cleanly on. Plus, Roiman Villa rallied late to stun Rashidi Ellis by majority decision. Villa scored two knockdowns in the final round to give himself the edge on two of the judges' scorecards. And Demetrius Andrade was successful in his debut at super middleweight as he handled  Demond Nicholson with ease by decision.

Garcia repeatedly told his corner "I can't see" in between rounds and the fight is over! Davis does it again, having some rocky moments before scoring the fight-ending shot.

Official result: Gervonta Davis def. Hector Luis Garcia via TKO, Round 8 (3:00)

Rashidi Ellis vs. Roiman Villa -- Round 5: Ellis landed a hard counter left and then went right back to his very crisp jab. Villa just can not figure out a way to keep Ellis against the ropes long enough to do anything meaningful for more than a brief moment and Ellis is landing from all angles and with a variety of punches. Tremendous stuff from Ellis through five rounds.

Rashidi Ellis vs. Roiman Villa -- Round 4: Villa landed to the body against the ropes but Ellis responded with a good counter. Villa had more success in the round but Ellis still would follow Villa's best moments with a good shot of his own. Ellis landed a hard uppercut and then a hard combination that seemed to buzz Villa. Ellis really turned up the heat in the final minute of that round.

Rashidi Ellis vs. Roiman Villa -- Round 3: Villa continued to struggle walking Ellis down and keeping him against the ropes. Ellis landed some more solid combinations before sliding away back out of trouble. Ellis slipped some wild hooks from Villa before shimmying to show off his slick defense. Ellis has proven a bit too quick and Villa needs to figure out a way to change the way the fight is playing out before he falls too far behind on the scorecards.

Rashidi Ellis vs. Roiman Villa -- Round 2: Villa got Ellis along the ropes and landed a few punches while Ellis cracked with his own uppercuts in a fun exchange. Villa again landed a good uppercut along the ropes, applying pressure more effectively in this round, though Ellis was still landing good shots while utilizing his superior hand speed. Villa missed with some wild hooks as Ellis kept working strong off the jab.

Rashidi Ellis vs. Roiman Villa -- Round 1: Ellis popped off early jabs and worked some heavy punches to the body. Villa continued walking forward with a high guard as Ellis popped off quick punches trying to keep Villa from fully closing the distance and setting his feet. Villa landed nothing in the first two minutes of the fight as he failed to get Ellis stuck against the ropes. Villa landed one body shot after getting Ellis against the ropes and then managed to crack with an uppercut. Still, the round was all Ellis.

Official result: Demetrius Andrade def. Demond Nicholson via unanimous decision (100-88 x3)

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 10: Same song and dance in the final round of the fight. Andrade landed a few good flurries and then stayed defensive to close the round. That was true until that Andrade scored a late knockdown on a right hand where Nicholson's glove touched the canvas. Nicholson beat the count and threw a few punches in the final moments before being trapped against the ropes while Andrade landed a final combination. Should be a clean sweep on the scorecards in addition to two 10-8 rounds for Andrade.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 9: Andrade sat down on some good punches early in the round. Nicholson responded by trying to walk forward behind the jab but still did not land anything meaningful of his own. Andrade began circling around the ring and taking his foot off the gas over the second half of the round.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 8: Nicholson sat with his back against the ropes, basically begging Andrade to engage to try and counter. Andrade slowed his output considerably in response, allowing Nicholson to poe with occasional punches while not having to survive much incoming offense. It's not a winning strategy for Nicholson but he took far less punches in the round than he had in any other round in the fight.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 7: Andrade let fly with several hard, accurate counters which continued to draw taunts and trash talk from Nicholson. Andrade's counters continued to land at an extremely high clip. Nicholson went down late in the round but was basically thrown to the canvas by Andrade, resulting in the referee not awarding a knockdown.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 6: Nicholson landed a very hard jab and it appeared to cause swelling on Andrade's eye. Nicholson began standing in front of Andrade, yelling and taunting him. Odd stuff but Andrade continues to pile up rounds by simply being better.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 5: Nicholson's one trick appears to be to try and time a left hook counter but he has missed the mark every time he's let the punch go. Out of nowhere, Andrade went down after a flurry from Nicholson but the referee called it a slip. Nicholson did get in a good left hand and seemed to find a bit of confidence after what appeared to be a legitimate knockdown. Andrade was still well in control of the action and landing the better shots but Nicholson found a bit of life in that round.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 4: Andrade is landing nearly 50% of his power punches at this point. Nicholson is landing next to nothing but has initiated a lot of clinches. Andrade has been boxing a much more entertaining fight than is his norm but has very little reason to hesitate to open up with how little Nicholson has shown.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 3: Andrade landed a good right hand early and missed with a big uppercut. Nicholson has maintained a high guard to pick off a lot of incoming shots but after getting tangled up, Nicholson indicated that he may have injured his shoulder. The men fought on after the shoulder situation, with Nicholson walking forward but not landing while Andrade landed plenty of his own clean punches.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 2: Andrade seemed to sense no real risk from Nicholson, allowing him to wing in power shots. Andrade also started mixing in more body shots in the round, keeping Nicholson on the defensive before a two-punch combo sat Nicholson down. Nicholson got back to his feet quickly and tried to start responding with some punches, seemingly not hurt too badly despite the knockdown.

Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson -- Round 1: Andrade came out fast, thudding Nicholson with a few good shots just seconds into the fight. Things got rough in the clinch, with a clash of heads taking place and seeming to bother Nicholson's eye. Andrade landed more clean shots as things continued getting rough on the inside.
