Ellis made his NHL debut in Wednesday night's 3-2 shootout loss to Anaheim. He skated on the third pair, registering two shots on goal and a two-minute penalty in 10:31 of ice time.

Ellis, who had 12 goals and 31 points with St. John's in the American Hockey League prior to his call-up, has come a long way since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. The 6-foot-1 blue-liner from Prince Edward Island spent some time with the Wheeling Nailers of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) last season before getting back to American Hockey League.
