After the Washington Wizards made the second-round of the Eastern Conference playoffs and looked to be on their way to becoming one of the best teams in the conference, there was a real feeling that Kevin Durant may come back to the Washington D.C. area to play for the Wizards. LeBron James had just gone back home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Durant was poking around a potential deal with Baltimore-based Under Armour (before he stayed with Nike), and we were trying to figure out if homecomings were going to become all the rage in free agency.

Then things stopped going the Wizards' way. They missed the playoffs last season and all of that momentum toward hoping to sign Durant fizzled out pretty early in the season. The Wizards didn't even get to pitch Durant in person and were left out in the cold. He signed with the Golden State Warriors and the Wizards had to move on. But Wizards fans haven't quite moved on. Durant is a fan of the Washington NFL team and attended the Monday Night Football game as a "local Olympian." It was there that Durant received some boos after being announced to the D.C. crowd.

It's not a resounding level of boos but it was enough that it was quite noticeable. You have to wonder if he had actually met with the Wizards but still turned them down, would the boos have been louder or would the Wizards fans have known all along he wasn't going to sign with them anyway? To not get a chance to pitch him when teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, and Boston Celtics did can't possibly sit right with some. But does that say more about Durant or the current state of the Wizards?

Regardless, Durant couldn't have had too much fun at the game. His favorite team lost 38-16 and it was never close after halftime. He did have an amazing view of one of Antonio Brown's two touchdowns.

Durant can be a free agent in the summer of 2017. Maybe the Wizards will get a meeting then?
