Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was forced to miss his team's 17-15 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday night after he had emergency eye surgery to repair a detached retina on Wednesday. It was the first game Zimmer has missed in his NFL career.

Per a report from ESPN.com, Zimmer had another surgery Friday morning when he went to the doctor for a follow-up exam. The operation was the fourth Zimmer has undergone this season.

However, Zimmer may be ready to coach in time for Minnesota's Week 14 game against the Jaguars. He just may not be able to travel with the team to the game, because it may not be safe for him to fly. If that's the case, the Vikings have a contingency plan in place to drive Zimmer from Minnesota to Jacksonville for the game.

Zimmer was replaced for the Cowboys game by special teams coach Mike Priefer, and that would be the case again if he has to sit out the game against the Jaguars. However, ESPN reported that Zimmer is expected to appear at his weekly Wednesday press conference and be in position to coach next week.

The Vikings are now 6-6 after starting the season 5-0, and are dropping farther back in the playoff race seemingly every week. They're a game and a half back of the Lions in the NFC North and would need to pass them in overall record in order to win the division after losing both of their games to Detroit this season. After Jacksonville, the Vikes take on the Colts, Packers, and Bears in the final three weeks of their season.
