The biggest names in the golf world are headed to Memphis this week for a blockbuster tournament. TPC Southwind hosts the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship beginning on Thursday, with the tournament marking the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Jon Rahm leads the FedEx Cup standings after four tournament wins this season, and he is joined by the top 70 in the standings, down from 125 players in previous seasons. After this week's tournament, the top 50 will progress to the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields.
Scottie Scheffler (+650) is the betting favorite in the latest 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship odds, followed by Rahm (+800) and Rory McIlroy (+800). Should you back one of the favorites this week, or can 2021 winner Tony Finau (+3000) provide strong value among your 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship fantasy golf picks? Before you consider your 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship fantasy golf picks or PGA Tour bets, you have to see the FedEx St. Jude Championship fantasy golf rankings from SportsLine handicapper Eric Cohen.
Cohen is an avid golf bettor who correctly predicted the pre-tournament outright winner of the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic (Rickie Fowler +1400), 2023 PGA Championship (Brooks Koepka +2000), 2023 Honda Classic (Chris Kirk +3500), 2022 Open Championship (Cameron Smith +2200), 2022 U.S. Open (Matt Fitzpatrick +2500), and 2022 Phoenix Open (Scottie Scheffler's first career victory at +2800).

2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship expert picks
Cohen is buying Brian Harman this week as a fantastic value play. Harman is playing some of the best golf of his career, headlined by a lopsided win at the Open Championship. That was his first major title, and Harman finished in the top 12 at both the Genesis Scottish Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic prior to that performance. Earlier, Harman finished tied for second at the Travelers Championship in late June, and Harman was tied for third in Memphis in 2022. In that tournament, he gained more than five shots on approach and more than six shots tee-to-green in the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, and Harman is elite in multiple areas. That includes a PGA Tour-leading 66.96% scrambling rate and the No. 2 mark in bogey avoidance (12.12%).
On the flip side, the expert is fading Xander Schauffele at his current price. Cohen acknowledges that Schauffele is a top-tier player, but his results don't match the price when it comes to the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Schauffele has zero wins this season, and he has finished in the top 10 only once in Memphis. Schauffele did not crack the top 15 in the FedEx Cup standings this week, and he has been outside of the top 15 in five of his last six tournaments. Schauffele is also No. 90 on the PGA Tour in strokes gained around-the-green, and he is No. 90 or worse in putting inside 10 feet, three-putt avoidance, and driving accuracy. For this week, Cohen is backing several underdogs in his 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship fantasy golf picks, including one massive longshot who comes in at 90-1. Cohen notes that this player "has gained 30 shots on approach in his last five tournaments" and he is "a great value for DFS players this week."
