The 2023 John Deere Classic gets underway on Thursday, July 6. The non-elevated event will take place at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. with a field that includes just one top-20 player in Cameron Smith. Six previous winners will take part in the action, including 2022 winner J.T. Poston, 2021 winner Lucas Glover, and former Masters champion Zach Johnson. With just two weeks until the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, some players are also polishing their games and jockeying for overall position.

Denny McCarthy (14-1) is the favorite in the latest 2023 John Deere Classic odds, followed by Young (16-1  and Russell Henley (18-1). In addition to the top players, does a young player like 20-year-old Gordon Sargent (70-1) project as a valuable inclusion among your 2023 John Deere Classic fantasy golf picks? Before you consider your 2023 John Deere Classic fantasy golf picks or PGA Tour bets, you have to see the John Deere Classic fantasy rankings from SportsLine handicapper Eric Cohen

Cohen is an avid golf bettor who correctly predicted the pre-tournament outright winner of last week's Rocket Mortgage Classic (Rickie Fowler, +1400), 2023 PGA Championship (Brooks Koepka +2000), 2023 Honda Classic (Chris Kirk +3500), 2022 Open Championship (Cameron Smith +2200), 2022 U.S. Open (Matt Fitzpatrick +2500), and 2022 Phoenix Open (Scottie Scheffler's first career victory +2800).

2023 John Deere Classic expert picks

Cohen is embracing McCarthy, who is playing quite well in recent weeks. He has finished inside the top 10 in three of the past six tournaments, excelling with the putter in a way that can be crucial in creating positive results. He ranks as a top-five putter on the PGA Tour this season and, with the way McCarthy can hit his irons, there is considerable upside. McCarthy was able to generate a T-6 finish in this tournament a year ago, picking up more than five strokes gained on approach shots that week.

At the same time, Cohen is fading Ludvig Aberg at his current pricing. Aberg started strong a week ago at the Rocket Mortgage Classic but fell apart with his short game and finished well outside the top 30. Cohen believes Aberg "needs to sharpen his other areas in order to win," though he does note Aberg's propensity to make birdies. Despite Aberg's future numbers, he doesn't land in a similar spot in Cohen's projection. See all of Cohen's picks at SportsLine
