After the incredible and unexpected Saudi Arabia's win against Argentina in the first match of the day, Tunisia were able to stop Denmark and shared the points 0-0 after a very interesting and exciting match at the Education City Stadium in Doha despite the lack of goals.
Tunisia had a better start to the match, creating some early chances and proving to be a much stronger opponent than expected. Denmark had some issues keeping the ball and suffered during the whole match under the pressure the African side applied. The second half started how the first one ended, and even if Denmark had two huge chances with Christian Eriksen and Andreas Cornelius, Tunisia were always in the game and defended well.
In the final minutes of the game, the VAR called the referee to check for a potential penalty for Denmark but the referee decided to hold to his decision and didn't give the potential penalty for handball to the Danish side. It was a disappointing opening match for Denmark, who were supposed to win this game pretty easily, but today's results showed us that there the World Cup always gives us some unexpected surprises.
Later on Wednesday France and Australia will play their opening match of the World Cup (complete standings) and as of now Denmark and Tunisia share the first place in the group stage with one point each. On Saturday Tunisia will play against Australia at 5 a.m. ET (complete schedule), while France will face Denmark at 11 a.m.
