It's been a rough day for players who were hoping to carry a clipboard on an NFL sideline next season. Backup quarterbacks in Cincinnati, Miami and New York were cut on Monday in Josh Johnson, Jordan Rodgers and the Giants' Rusty Smith.
Rodgers, who has a famous brother in Green Bay, had only been with the Dolphins since early April when he signed with the team to compete for the No. 3 quarterback job that currently belongs to Pat Devlin. Since coming out of Vanderbilt in 2013, Rodgers has spent time with Tampa Bay, Jacksonville and Miami, but he's failed to latch with any of those teams.
Although Rodgers only lasted just over a month in Miami, that's more than Smith lasted in New York. The Giants signed Smith on April 28 and the former Titans quarterback lasted exactly two weeks before being cut on Monday.
In Cincinnati, Johnson's value went down after the Bengals drafted AJ McCarron in the fifth-round on Saturday. The Bengals also signed former Redskins first-rounder Jason Campbell in March, which left Johnson as the odd man out. Johnson appeared in two games last season as Andy Dalton's backup.
And lets not forget about Vince Young. After only 11 days in Cleveland, Young was released on Monday. Young probably figured his days were numbered after the Browns drafted Johnny Manziel in the first round of last weeks's NFL Draft.
