Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Game 1
4 3 OT
Flyers lead series 1-0
No. 1 Star
Danny Briere scored the first goal for the Flyers with Philadelphia trailing 3-0 in the second period to jump start his team. Replay showed that Briere was offside but that doesn't matter now. The Flyers eventually tied the game in regulation before winning it shortly into over time with Jakub Voracek's goal.
Turning Point
The Penguins power play had three opportunities to give their a team an added cushion three times in the second period and failed every time. One of them led to a number of short-handed chances for the Flyers, and a Danny Briere goal shortly after it ended.
Despite grabbing early momentum with a 3-0 lead after the first period, the Penguins relaxed and let their cross-state rivals back into the game, as they've done multiple times this season.
It was....
Physical, but clean. Very clean, for the most part. If you were looking for blood on the ice, you didn't get it. Ilya Bryzgalov shook off a horrible first period and rewarded head coach Peter Laviolette for sticking with him by slamming the door on the Penguins the rest of the way.
It's was also shocking to see the Penguins lose a three-goal lead on home ice. Especially considering many people labeled the Penguins the favorites before the series started.
