What to watch

Big-name teams looking to bounce back: France, Argentina and Germany all lost their openers, and their defenses were simply awful. Way too much space given up, failing to close down on time and a lack of cohesion saw each concede multiple goals. Now, another defeat and they'll be done. The pressure is on all three of them, but it feels like Germany is the most likely to bounce back. France didn't get to bring the quality it wanted in the middle of the park but still should beat South Africa, while Germany had their moments going forward and are expected to crush Saudi Arabia. Argentina, on the other hand, were so very wasteful against Australia in the 2-0 loss, but they were fortunate to not have conceded more. Don't be surprised if the South Americans fail to win again here.

Mexico eyeing another big display: Mexico made a lot of noise at the Olympics by crushing France 4-2 in the opener, and they'll aim to move to 2-0-0 against an outmatched Japan team that still shouldn't be taken lightly. El Tri have been stellar though, with Diego Lainez taking the team to another level with his pace and short, quick passing. Winners of the 2012 gold medal, Mexico have become one of the favorites to take home gold after 90 minutes. But will they still be after 180?

Brazil the early favorite for gold: A loaded Brazil team looked sharp going forward against Germany and will hope to do it again against a solid Ivory Coast team that beat Saudi Arabia in their opener. Richarlison's hat trick carried the South Americans in the first game, with their technical ability giving the disciplined Germans trouble. Against a much-less disciplined team in the Ivorians, it figures to be another big day for the boys in yellow. Expect quite the show of skill with plenty of chances to go around, as the Brazilians will likely create most of them.
