Arsenal vs. Manchester United score: Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus strike late in dramatic Premier League win

Arsenal left it late to beat Manchester United in dramatic fashion in the Premier League at Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus both score in time added on to seal three points for the Gunners just minutes after the Red Devils nearly won it themselves through Alejandro Garnacho.

It was Arsenal who fell behind after 27 minutes when Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for United with effectively the visitors' first chance of the game. Erik ten Hag's men were only in front for less than two minutes, though, as Martin Odegaard dragged Mikel Arteta's side level with a fine strike.

The hosts saw shouts for a penalty overturned at 1-1 as Kai Havertz sought to atone for an earlier miss and the same fate nearly befell Bukayo Saka who was denied by Andre Onana when he should have scored. However, substitute Garnacho's finish just minutes later was ruled out for offside and Arsenal did more than breathe a sigh of relief.

The Gunners went on to score twice with Rice finishing from a Saka assist on a set play before Jesus was played in by fellow substitute Fabio Vieira to make it 3-1. As harsh as the result was on United, Ten Hag will be furious with the officials although Arteta might have felt the same about the overturned penalty.

Arsenal up to fifth in the Premier League table while United are midtable after two wins and two draws from their opening four games.

FT: Arsenal 3-1 United

The hosts win it at the death with a dramatic late Declan Rice winner and Gabriel Jesus' insurance strike just as it look as if Mikel Arteta's men were going to be lucky to finish with a point. Alejandro Garnacho's goal was chalked off after Bukayo Saka was denied by Andre Onana at 1-1. Marcus Rashford's opener was pegged back by Martin Odegaard with both excellent goals in the opening 45 and Arsenal were then later denied a penalty before a late flurry of action. Erik ten Hag will feel aggrieved that Garnacho was denied what could have been a late winner and livid that his side capitulated in extra time as Rice and then Jesus scored.

Arsenal 3-1 United!

Vieira tees up Jesus to run through and makes sure of it late on. What an incredible end to the game where United were close to winning it before Arsenal pulled away.

Arsenal 2-1 United!

Declan Rice with surely the most dramatic of late winning goals from a Saka assist! The Gunners snatch all three points after Saka looked to have blown it and VAR bailed out Arteta's men when Garnacho put the ball in the net. An incredible finish to the game!

United goal disallowed!

Alejandro Garnacho thought he had won it for the Red Devils there with anlmost instant impact from the man who came on just a few minutes ago to replace Antony. However, the goal is chalked off for offside -- a massive let-off for Arsenal who could have gone ahead through Saka just a few minutes before. Eight minutes have been added on at Emirates Stadium.

Saka should score

What an opportunity that was and it will probably not get any better for Arsenal in terms of potentially winning this game. Onana keeps Saka out, but will not have known much about it as he did so. The Gunner could still become the first Arsenal player to score in four successive Premier League appearances against United, but time is now running out.

Treble change

Heading into the final 10 minutes or so and Arteta goes for it with three changes by sending Jesus, Tomiyasu and Vieira on for Nketiah, Zinchenko and Havertz. Hojlund has looked decent so far for United with Rashford still being a menace for the Gunners' back line too. Can either side find a winner?

Hojlund debut

United are getting their first look at their big money summer signing Rasmus Hojlund who finally comes on in place of Anthony Martial. Lisandro Martinez also has to make way for Harry Maguire after injuring himself in a clash with Nketiah and getting booked before going off. Still 0-0 and now into the final 20 minutes.

Arsenal penalty appeal

Clumsy from Wan-Bissaka as well as Casemiro so Havertz thought that he had won a controversial spot kick for the Gunners. VAR eventually overturned the hosts' chance to go 2-1 up, but that will continued to be discussed long after the final whistle.

Big chance!

That was a huge one for United and Rashford as we approach the hour mark. The England international fails to notch his second goal of the game after Martial forced Ramsdale into a save and it fell for Rashford. Havertz missed a big one in the first half and was made to pay for it -- will the same happen here?

Second half

We are back underway at Emirates Stadium with no changes on either side as we get back going for the second 45 at one goal apiece. Lindelof and Saka are both on yellows, but Ten Hag and Arteta are keeping their powder dry for changes until later in the game.

HT: Arsenal 1-1 United

We are level at the break after this one came to life around the 30-minute mark. Marcus Rashford with the opener for United to silence Emirates Stadium before Martin Odegaard leveled for Arsenal within two minutes. This one has been feisty in places and a bit sloppy despote some excellent goals.

Yellow cards

Heading towards half time and both sides pick up their first bookings with Lindelof and Saka shown yellow cards within minutes of each other. The United man for a foul on Nketiah and the Arsenal star for catching Bruno Fernandes.

Arsenal 1-1 United!

Suddenly we have a game on our hands! Odegaard hits back for the hosts from a Martinelli assist within two minutes of Rashford's opener. Delightful finish on his left from the edge of the box into the bottom corner to delight the home fans just moments after going behind.

Arsenal 0-1 United!

Just as I was saying that... Marcus Rashford opens the scoring on the counter attack. United's first meaningful foray forward and it resulted in a goal with Eriksen feeding Rashford who scored with an excellent right footed finish. Havertz with further questions to answer after losing the ball in what has been a poor first half from him.

Goalless

The first 25 minutes or so have been a bit muddled with both sides keen to avoid any errors which has contributed to a fairly jittery opening overall. Arsenal have had the best of it with a few chances, but so far there have been no goals and it is also fairly even possession.

Huge chance!

Havertz misses a big opening there for Arsenal! Not only did he miss the chance, he also missed the ball entirely when very well placed and only needing to connect with the ball to score. Still 0-0 and Odegaard is starting to influence things from midfield for the home side.

Underway

The game is now underway at Emirates Stadium with Arsenal immediately on the front foot and winning a corner which comes to nothing but shows attacking intent from the home side. Ten Hag has already been warned about his technical area conduct while the away fans are chanting directed at the club's ownership which remains with the Glazer family. United's change jersey also gives off major Newcastle vibes.

Potential places

Three points would be enough for Arsenal to move into the European places ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion while a win for United could move them to within one point of the top five just behind the Seagulls. Although it is early in the season, neither team can afford to lose this one with Erik ten Hag particularly in need of a convincing showing from his players while Mikel Arteta will not want his to see his team leave points on the table for a second consecutive home game.

Final scores

It has been a surprisingly goal-filled day in the Premier League so far with eight goals from the two games earlier today. Liverpool brushed Aston Villa aside 3-0 with Dominik Szoboszlai and a Matty Cash own goal from the first half added to by Mohamed Salah in the second for three deserved points for Jurgen Klopp's men. Unai Emery's side lost Diego Carlos to injury at Anfield which they will hope is not as serious as those suffered by Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia already this season. Five second half goals between Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers saw the Eagles run out 3-2 winners at Selhurst Park with Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze on target for the hosts and both Hwang Hee Chan and Matheus Cunha scoring for the visitors.

United stats

The Red Devils have won six of their last seven Premier League games, but could be about to lose their two opening games of a league season since 1973-74. Ten Hag's side have won just once in their last 10 visits to London which was a win away at Fulham back in November of 2022. Bruno Fernandes has scored three times in his last five EPL outings for United while Marcus Rashford scored or assisted four of the team's five goals vs. Arsenal last season.

Starting XIs

The confirmed teams are in at Emirates Stadium and Eddie Nketiah is fit to start for Arsenal while Gabriel is restored to the Gunners' defense for this one and Oleksandr Zinchenko also comes in. Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof comes in for injured Raphael Varane and Altay Bayindir as well as Sergio Reguilon join Hojlund on the bench.

Arsenal stats

The hosts have lost just two of their last 24 Premier League games, but they have only kept four clean sheets from their last 26 home outings. The Gunners have conceded 12 of their last 16 EPL goals at Emirates Stadium in the second half as well as three more in the opening 60 seconds of games. If he scores, Bukayo Saka will be the first Arsenal player to score in four successive Premier League appearances against United.

Fixture record

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last five home games vs. United with four wins and one draw. A win today would see the Gunners win three home games consecutively against the Red Devils for the first time since 1988-91. United have lost five of their last nine Premier League games against Arsenal while Mikel Arteta will hope that this fixture continues to produce three goals for the home side which has happened in each of the last four league meetings between the two.

Elsewhere

It is half time in the two other Premier League games today with Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers goalless and Liverpool leading Aston Villa by two goals. Dominik Szoboszlai and a Matty Cash own goal have Jurgen Klopp's men in full control at Anfield while Unai Emery's side have lost another player to injury in Diego Carlos. Another 45 to come in both games, but it already looks like the Reds will be moving into the early season top four.

Team news

Arsenal: Takehiro Tomiyasu is back from suspension and Oleksandr Zinchenko seems to be close to returning after a calf problem, but Jurrien Timber and Mohamed Elneny remain out injured. Eddie Nketiah took a knock in the Fulham draw which is not thought to be too serious and Gabriel Jesus made his return after surgery last week. Gabriel Magalhaes could come back into contention while Thomas Partey might miss a few weeks with a groin issue.

Possible Arsenal XI: Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Rice, Havertz; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.

United: Raphael Varane picked up an injury against Forest and is out so Victor Lindelof could come in while Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Tom Heaton are also unavailable. Ten Hag could finally have Rasmus Hojlund available, though, after his back issue delayed a potential competitive debut and Sergio Reguilon is also available to compete with Diogo Dalot for a starting berth. Sofyan Amrabat was not signed in time to make his potential debut here.

Possible United XI: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund.
