USA 3-0 Colombia (Final)
Goals from Mia Fishel, Lindsey Horan, and Jaedyn Shaw give USA the victory against Colombia.
The U.S. women's national team found the back of the net against Colombia on Sunday night in a 3-0 friendly victory. Despite the better attacking chances, the U.S. settled for a scoreless draw on Tuesday in their first meeting. After the goalless result against Las Cafeteras, the USWNT defeated Colombia with each goal coming in the second half.
Interim head coach Twila Kilgore made only a few rotations to the starting lineup to close out the October window. The two-game series is her final set of games with the USWNT as the head coaching search continues. Sporting Director Matt Crocker has said the federation wants a new coach ahead of the December friendlies.
Kilgore made just three adjustments to start the evening with Casey Murphy, Sophia Smith and Savannah DeMelo in the lineup. The team was still searching for a goal after their previous match on Thursday, but the goals still needed time to come. Second-half substitutes Shaw and Fishel provided an immediate spark and led the team to victory.
Fishel broke the deadlock early into the second half with a header off a short corner. It's her first ever goal with the senior national team and it came in front of her hometown crowd in San Diego. Emily Sonnett provided the service into the box and Fishel was able to rise into space and direct the ball into goal.
Shaw, an 18-year-old attacker, also scored her first goal with the senior national team on her second appearance, extending the lead for the USWNT with a third goal on Sunday. The attacking sequence was sparked to life by her fellow teenage teammate, 18-year-old Alyssa Thompson. Check out how the duo slice and dice between the lines:
There are 13 players who will return to NWSL for the postseason. NWSL semifinals start on Nov. 5, and the final two teams will compete for the ultimate prize during the NWSL Championship on Nov. 11. You can watch the NWSL live on Paramount+.
The next USWNT squad will be named ahead of the next international window which begins on Nov. 27 with two games vs. China beginning on Dec. 2.
Goals from Mia Fishel, Lindsey Horan, and Jaedyn Shaw give USA the victory against Colombia.
18-year-old Shaw gets a goal for USA and extends the lead in front of her club crowd.
The USWNT has taken over the game in the second half and this time its Horan with the go-ahead goal. Colombia was caught snoozing, leaving Horan completely unmarked to make a run into the box. She one-times the service into the box and slots the ball into the back of the net.
The USWNT forward breaks the deadlock with a goal off a short corner! In her second-ever appearance for the national team Fishel gets the header off the quick service in front of her hometown San Diego.
The scoreless game means urgency from both sides to start the second half. USWNT keeper Murphy is forced into a couple of saves with looks by Colombia after Shaw and Fishel immediately combine in dangerous spaces for the team.
That's it for Smith as she continues to build on her minutes following an MCL sprain. Morgan's day is also down and Shaw and Fishel come on.

The two sides head into halftime with another stalemate. A physical first half, but USWNT leading in most attacking stats, and has already matched Thursday's shots on target (2) in the first 45 minutes.
The match is into first-half stoppage time as the USWNT sets up for a free kick. DeMelo has been over services all half. The set piece play is cleared by Colombia but another caution leads to another free kick attempt.
A yellow no was issued to Daniela Montoya after a foul on DeMelo. Just a few minutes after Morgan's caution in the 39th. Free kick here for USWNT in the 41st minute.
The first yellow card of the game goes to Alex Morgan in the 39th minute for a foul on Marcela Restrepo. There have been multiple moments to get control of the match, with cards finally coming out ahead of the first half.
25' Giraldo is coming off after what appears to be an elbow injury. She came down hard on a landing after a remarkable save on Morgan. Sandra Sepulveda comes into the match to face a USWNT corner kick which is quickly cleared away.
Sonnett and Horan combine to progress the ball toward Smith who finds Morgan in space. The USWNT forward decides to take the shot from a distance and the power behind the shot forces a save by Natalia Giraldo. The goalkeeper needs some attention after making a hard landing.
Physicality settling into the match. Horan goes down in the box after an aerial attempt, Colombia tries to counter quickly but Ingrid Guerra then goes down for Colombia. Multiple fouls in a sequence and no cautions from the ref as the game approaches the 20-minute mark.
Another free kick won for USA and this time DeMelo delivered from the right-hand side. The service is accurate and towards Horan once more, a better look than the first free kick, but the attempt is just off target.
Good opening five minutes for USWNT, strong counter press and winning the ball. Get a free kick and DeMelo's service just misses with Horan for a look on goal.
Good opening five minutes for USWNT, strong counter press and winning the ball. Get a free kick and DeMelo's service just misses with Horan for a look on goal.
Kickoff is just a few minutes away so let's have some fun with a prediction. There are few ideas in the attack right now and that will continue on Sunday if the team doesn't try something new. Pick: USWNT 1, Colombia 1
With just three changes to the lineup, there's not a lot in the way of new ideas here. U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker is in the process of finding their next head coach, so maybe the expectation for huge shakeups before a new manager is too high. The Olympics are just nine months away, and if the federation narrative is not to place so much pressure on upcoming talents, a low-stakes game like this one would've been perfect for fresh talent. The little rotation is disappointing.
There are three different players from Thursday night's starting lineup in Sandy, Utah. Casey Murphy gets the start in goal for Alyssa Naeher, Savannah DeMelo in the midfield for Andi Sullivan and Sophia Smith on the attack for Lynn Williams.
Smith is working back into form since she sustained a mild MCL sprain in August. This is her first start with the USWNT since the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. This is her 36th international appearance overall after leading the USA in scoring in 2022.

The group had to settle for a scoreless draw against Colombia on Thursday. Veteran defender Becky Sauerbrunn played the entire second half for the group in her return to the team. The 45-minute shift was her first with the squad since April. The team will be half-satisfied to carry the clean sheet into Sunday, but the good looks in the attack with no goals isn't a great feat coming out of a World Cup where finishing was a problem.
The Colombians will be satisfied to open their two-game series against the U.S. with a clean sheet. Player rotation might be an x-factor for Colombia heading into the second game, but perhaps not in their attack. 18-year-old Linda Caicedo will want to build on her touches from the first match after she saw less of the ball in the second half.
The United States women's national team wrap up their October window against Colombia on Sunday at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California. The two teams played to a scoreless draw on Thursday in Utah, and despite the USWNT having better opportunities on goal, the finishing was missing for the home side. The October games are the final matches for interim head coach Twila Kilgore as the federation continues the search for the next head coach.
