Week 5 Seasonal Rankings: Standard | PPR

Sometimes in DFS when you're right you're wrong. And vice versa.

The Saints and Chargers were a prime example in Week 4. Melvin Gordon was our favorite running back and he was a huge success, scoring two touchdowns despite the fact the Saints defense pretty much shut him down and held him near two yards per carry.

On the other hand, the Saints were our top stack even though they were on the road and scored 35 points! Of course, three of those touchdowns came courtesy of John Kuhn and the stack largely was a bust.

All of that is to say that what you're looking for in tournaments is upside. Sometimes that upside comes from places you couldn't have expected.

What everyone is expecting this week is a Patriots blowout of the Browns. I mostly agree, I'm just not sure how it's going to happen. I would expect a spike in ownership for Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett. I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Brady is one of the most popular quarterbacks. I'm not arguing with any of that, but LeGarrette Blount may be the sharper play.

Bill Belichick loves to do the exact opposite of what people expect, so if certain Patriots are going to be chalk it's never a bad idea to choose the other side. Blount has been pretty great so far this year and anyone can be good with the type of volume he saw early in the year.

If you don't want to play the Patriots my two favorite stacks are the Bears and the Packers. Green Bay is pretty obvious, but with Kevin White out the Bears become slightly more easy to predict. Hoyer is a bargain at QB and so is Eddie Royal at WR. I wouldn't play Jordan Howard with a full Bears stack, but I don't hate the idea of Hoyer-Howard and one of the options in the passing game. Alshon Jeffery is going to break loose one of these games.

In Hoyer and Blount I've pretty much given you my favorite contrarian plays at those two positions. Or at least what I think will be contrarian. We'll have a better idea of that with ownership data on Sunday morning from UFCollective. Here are three WRs I also think could be low owned and very good.

Odell Beckham, Jr. (FD $8,500, DK $8,500)

Last week it was A.J. Green and Julio Jones, the week before it was Jordy Nelson and Allen Robinson. This week it's Odell Beckham. Give me the low-owned elite receiver that people are waiting to play until they "get hot" again. (Yes, DeAndre Hopkins could qualify as well. I'm terrified of the Vikings though.)

Marvin Jones (FD $7,800, DK $7,600)

Jones came back to earth this week and now has a matchup with an Eagles defense that has yet to surrender a passing touchdown. The thing is that Jones' matchup really isn't that bad. If you wanted to get really contrarian you'd play Matthew Stafford with him.

Amari Cooper (FD $7,200, DK $7,200)

You could throw Demaryius Thomas in here as well. This is the section for elite wide receivers that are currently getting out-targeted and outperformed by the No. 2 in their offense. I would expect ownership to be much higher for Michael Crabtree and Emmanuel Sanders even though their ceiling isn't any higher.
