The damage and devastation left behind by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and the greater Houston area has led to national outreach and fundraising efforts by some of the biggest names in the sports world including J.J. Watt, who has raised over $15 million for relief efforts in a viral campaign on social media.
At the collegiate level, the University of Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson issued a call for help – and people have responded in droves. John Calipari and Kentucky raised over $1 million over the Labor Day weekend, and now the Duke men's basketball program is chipping in.
According to a release from Duke, the basketball program will host a "Knockout Harvey" event on Saturday morning at the famous Cameron Indoor Stadium where fans will have an opportunity to play knockout on the court with Duke players for a minimum $10 contribution per person.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Robin's House Family Foundation, which was founded by former Blue Devils star Justise Winslow and his mother. All proceeds will go to the Justise Winslow Hurricane Harvey Donation fund from the Foundation, which has raised $90,000 to date to help with relief efforts in Houston.
In addition to current Blue Devils players, the Miami Heat's Justise Winslow will also be on hand as a participant.
The event begins at 9:45 a.m. ET on Saturday and runs through 11:30 – just before Duke's noon football kickoff against the Northwestern Wildcats.
