Former Alabama quarterback Blake Sims wants Nick Saban and the Tide to succeed long after his eligibility has expired. He'll do a lot for the program, including putting the pads on again to work on Alabama's scout team.

Sims was on the roster when ex-Oklahoma, now-Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight lit the Alabama defense up in the Sugar Bowl. This week, he played the part of Knight in practice as the quarterback for Alabama's scout team.

ESPN's Sam Ponder broke the news on Saturday morning, interviewing Sims (who put on his old uniform and pads for the appearance) and George Whitfield in Tuscaloosa on the "College GameDay" set.

Sims' ability to extend the play with his feet helped the defense work on scrambling drills this week. Knight throws a great deep ball, and the Tide secondary doesn't want to let Josh Reynolds -- or another talented Texas A&M receiver -- hit a big play in Saturday's matchup.

According to AL.com, Sims was a recently member of the Atlanta Falcons practice squad and briefly played in the Canadian Football League this summer. His appearance and involvement at the Tide's practice is not totally unprecedented in college football, as you might remember Marshawn Lynch popping up on the scout team at Cal this summer.
