Storylines

Tennessee: The Vols have yet to play a game outside the state of Tennessee. This is a team that should be feeling plenty confident after its comeback from down 21-0 to Florida, but it's also a group that has struggled getting off to good starts. Tennessee fell behind against Appalachian State, Virginia Tech and Florida early, but was able to rally back for wins in each -- and the Vols failed to put any distance between them and Ohio in their other game.

Falling behind and having to fight back each week is a less than ideal strategy at home and a downright dangerous one on the road. This is a Georgia team that has had its confidence shaken after some rough play in wins over Nicholls and Mizzou, and is now coming off of a beatdown at the hands of Ole Miss. The Vols can take advantage of that with quality early play, but the longer they let Georgia hang around at home, the more the Bulldogs will believe that they can take down Tennessee and move to the top of the division.

Georgia: Georgia has to compete better than it did against Ole Miss. This was a team that was challenged and did not respond in Oxford, getting beaten 45-14. Now, the Bulldogs have a chance to right the ship with Tennessee coming to Athens.

The defense has struggled against the pass back-to-back weeks against Mizzou and Ole Miss. The offensive line hasn't been able to create holes for Nick Chubb and receivers dropped half a dozen good passes from freshman Jacob Eason last week. There is improvement needed at just about every position after last week, but at 3-1, Georgia is still very much alive in the division and a win over Tennessee puts them in the driver's seat.

Tennessee is a physical football team that will ask questions about Georgia's toughness. What will the Dawgs' answer be?

Players to watch

Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia: Chubb tweaked an ankle against Ole Miss and sat out, but Georgia will need their star against the Vols.

Chubb needs help, though. He needs the offensive line to block people before they get into the backfield. He needs the passing game to provide some kind of threat to keep safeties honest and out of the box. But Chubb is the key cog to making this offense work.

For Georgia to beat Tennessee, he has to be really good, which would mean those other pieces are playing at least decently well. Few backs in the nation can match his combination of power and speed, and if the Dawgs can get him some opportunities to get to the second level, Chubb can put points on the board in a hurry with long runs.

Josh Dobbs, QB, Tennessee: Which Josh Dobbs shows up to Athens? If it's the Josh Dobbs we saw in the second half against Florida, Tennessee is pretty close to unstoppable and will win this game by two scores. If it's the Dobbs we saw in the first half, the Vols are going to be hard-pressed to get a win on the road.

This is a Georgia secondary that will provide opportunities in the passing game and it's Dobbs' job to take advantage. Tennessee is going to go as far as Dobbs will take them on offense. If he can figure out how to be consistently good, the Vols will win a lot of football games.

Matchup to watch

Tennessee defensive line vs. Georgia offensive line: Georgia's offensive line has not been good since the opener against North Carolina when they gashed the Tar Heels. Since then, it's been tough sledding for the Georgia rushing attack that was supposed to be the load-bearer of this offense with a freshman quarterback taking over.

While Tennessee has injury issues in the secondary and at linebacker, the Vols still have some beasts on the defensive line that will test the Dawgs up front. Derek Barnett and company made life miserable for Austin Appleby and Florida last week in the second half. If Georgia's offensive line isn't up to the task, the Bulldogs won't be putting up many points on Saturday.
