The Redskins placed Carrier (knee) on the active/PUP list Thursday, Master Tesfatsion of The Washington Post reports.

Carrier suffered tears to both the ACL and MCL in one knee in Week 14, so it isn't a shock that he's unable to practice at the outset of training camp. Despite progress with medical science, he'll be hard-pressed to make his presence felt at any point in the preseason, thereby hurting his chances of landing a spot on the 53-man roster. Jordan Reed (ankle) and Vernon Davis are all but assured jobs, while Niles Paul (ankle) and Logan Paulsen (toe) are present to round out the tight end corps.
