There are certain teams that just don't need to mess with their uniforms, like the Yankees, Dodgers, Tigers and, yes, the Cardinals. But St. Louis is doing just that, adding a third jersey. And, like the rest of the Cardinals' aesthetics, the team did it right.

Above is the new Cardinals third jersey the team showed off on Friday. The team also added what the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, called "incremental uniform changes" to the home and road jerseys. But the biggest change is the addition of the alternate jersey, leaving just the Yankees, Dodgers and Tigers as the only three teams that don't employ a third (or more) jersey.

While many third jerseys go bold with a lot of color -- like the Red Sox red or Marlins orange -- the Cardinals are going cream, and that's a good thing. The Braves added a cream alternate last year -- wearing the old-school look on weekend home games -- and it was their best look. The Phillies and Indians also have cream-colored alternates. The Cardinals will wear the new uniform for Saturday home games.

The Cardinals are not only changing the color but also using the city name, St. Louis, on a jersey for the first time in 80 years. It also has piping on the collar and on the front of the jersey, evoking the Stan Musial-era Cardinals.

The other changes will be more detail to the birds on the bat, including an eye instead of a dot, shading on the bat and shrinking the players' numbers on the front of the jersey for the standard home and road uniforms.
