  • Andreas Borgman: Waived unconditionally

Borgman was waived unconditionally by the Stars for the purpose of terminating his contract Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Borgman has yet to appear in an NHL contest this season, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him return to his native Sweden to continue his playing career now that he's no longer under contract with the Stars. The 26-year-old blueliner may have played his last NHL game.

  • Stars' Andreas Borgman: Waived Friday

Borgman was placed on waivers by Dallas on Friday, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports. Borgman appeared in seven games with the Lightning last season, tallying two helpers while posting a minus-2 rating over that span. The 26-year-old blueliner may bounce between levels in 2021-22, but he likely won't get into many games with the Stars.

  • Stars' Andreas Borgman: Signs two-way deal

Borgman put pen to paper on a one-year, two-way contract with Dallas on Wednesday. Borgman served as a depth defenseman for the Lightning last season, appearing in just seven games for the club in which he generated two assists, seven shots and 10 while averaging a meager 11:58 of ice time. The Swede probably should be expecting to once again split his time between the NHL and AHL and, as a result, won't offer much in the way of fantasy value.

Borgman was assigned to AHL Syracuse on Monday. The 25-year-old blueliner has played seven NHL games this season, dishing out two assists and 10 hits. • Maple Leafs' Andreas Borgman: Inks one-year, two-way extension

Borgman signed a one-year, two-way contract extension valued at $700,000 with the Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Borgman, a heavy-hitting rearguard, remains a work in progress defensively, though he put up three goals and eight assists over 48 games with the Leafs as a rookie in 2017-18 to tease some offensive potential. With any luck to the Buds, this contract will provide the confidence booster that he needs to fully ascend from the AHL ranks and make an impact with the parent club in 2019-20, but he'll more than likely be an organizational tweener.

For the time being, Borgman will likely remain in the minors to gain additional experience, but could get a callup if the Leafs run into injury problems.

Borgman will watch Saturday's game against the Canucks from the press box, Kristen Shilton of TSN.ca reports. Borgman, another rookie, has compiled two goals and seven helpers through 40 games with 13:43 of average ice time. Indeed, that's steady production for a first-year player learning a tough position.
