Orlando City vs. Inter Miami score: Nani scores dramatic winner to kick off MLS is Back Tournament
Nani was the hero with his easy finish just before the final whistle
Major League Soccer's return after four months off saw Orlando City beat Inter Miami 2-1 on Wednesday night at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in the opener of the MLS is Back Tournament. In a match that lacked chances and sharpness, both teams managed to score in a more frantic second half with Nani scoring the winner in the seventh minute of added time. Juan Agudelo put Inter on the board early in the second half with a finish from close before Chris Mueller's back-post goal got by Luis Robles with 20 minutes left to bring things level. Then, when a draw looked certain, the ball fell to Nani in front of goal, and the former Manchester United man would not miss.
While both teams looked rusty but improved in the second half, two events outside of the normal play caught the eyes of spectators, and one was moving and the other concerning. Before kickoff, players participated in a silent "Black Lives Matter" protest organized by the Black Players for Change organization. More on that here.
The concerning moment was an injury to Inter's young Colombian Andres Reyes, who went down after he appeared to receive an elbow to the throat. It's unclear what his status is, but it didn't look very good. He appeared to have a bit of trouble breathing, it seemed. Inter Miami hadn't provided an update on his status by the time the match ended.
In the end, Orlando City got three valuable points to kick off the action and some bragging rights in their first match against the newest club from Florida.
Orlando City 2, Inter Miami 1 (FT)
⚽ Inter: Juan Agudelo (47')
⚽ Orlando: Chris Mueller (70')
⚽ Orlando: NanI (90+7')
Little fortunate finish there truth be told. Mueller did well to get to the back post, but Robles has to do better there. Probably should have saved it.
Injury to Reyes was scary. Carried off the field. Didn't look good. Will update you all as we find out more, but that was scary.
Agudelo right in front of the net. Easy finish!
A fine goal for Inter! 1-0 to the "visitors!"
Through 40 minutes, there has been just one shot on goal.
15' It's sloppy early as each team is trying to get a proper feel for each other. Nani looks lively down the left, but Inter is defending well so far.
Here we go!
