UEFA Champions League scores: Plea, Jota net hat-tricks; Sergio Ramos scores 100th Real Madrid goal

UEFA Champions League Matchday 3 came to a close on Tuesday with eight more matches. There were 35 goals scored today throughout the matches, highlighted by dual hat-tricks from Alassane Plea and Diogo Jota. Let's get right to it with what you need to know from a busy day.

Top plays 

Alassane Plea goes off with early hat-trick: The French international got the scoring started early for Borussia Monchengladbach with this first goal of the match and his first in his Champions League career. He finished with a hat-trick in a comfortable 6-0 win in Ukraine.

Moussa Marega puts Porto in front for good: The Portuguese side went up in the fourth minute after Tecatito Corona dragged defenders and slipped a ball through to a drifting Marega into the box for a tap-in.

Diogo Jota nets first Liverpool hat-trick: The Portuguese forward put on a clinic for Liverpool, scoring three goals, including this beauty in the 54th minute. 

Sergio Ramos nets his 100th goal for Real: The longtime Madrista captain made a triumphant return to goal scoring for his team today, extending Real's lead in the 33rd minute with his 100th goal for the club.

Feran Torres goes streaking: Torres became part of a select group of players to score in four consecutive Champions League appearances along with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. He scored the opening goal in Tuesday's comfortable 3-0 win for Manchester City.

Notable performances  

Let's rate some of the notable performances on the day, with one being the worst and 10 being perfection:  

Alassane Plea, Borussia Monchengladbach: The team had done well to score goals and earn results, but had dropped crucial points in final minutes. He set the tone early today for his club, earning a hat-trick in the 6 goal thomping. RATING: 10

Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich: The highly-rated keeper conceded early to start the match, but put in a solid shift after RB Salzburg kept getting into dangerous spaces. His lethal teammates made up for the goal scoring to secure the win. RATING: 8

Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid: A solid performance from the long time defender for his side today. Scored off a set piece to earn his 100th goal and helped maintain a one goal lead down the stretch. RATING: 8

Diogo Jota, Liverpool: The Portuguese forward was impressive throughout the entire match for his side, scoring three goals in the 5-0 win against Atalanta. RATING: 10

A look ahead  

Matchday 3 continues tomorrow with another 8 matches on the docket, including Chelsea vs. Rennes, and PSG vs. RB Leipzig. First and second place is up for grabs in several groups, while teams like Manchester United and Barcelona could stay comfortable in first with wins against their opposition.
