Women's Champions League: Lyon beat PSG in semis, will face Wolfsburg with chance at fifth straight title

The Women's Champions League closed out the semifinals Wednesday, and Lyon is moving to Sunday's final. After defeating Paris Saint-Germain, reigning title holders Lyon will face Wolfsburg on Sunday for the trophy. t will be the third meeting in a final between the two sides. 

Here's everything to know from Lyon's win over their French rival on Wednesday.

PSG 0, Lyon 1: The semifinal saw both teams in a bit of a back and forth during the first half, with PSG starting the game off in a high press forcing pressure on Lyon early, before the reigning Champions League winners began to set their own tempo. Things took an interesting turn in the second half, as PSG went down to ten players after Grace Geyoro earned a second booking for a foul on Lucy Bronze. Lyon's Wendie Renard would provide the game winning header off the following free kick with service from Amel Majri. Nakita Parris would even the lineups to 10 vs. 10 after receiving a second booking for a foul on PSG's Cristiane Endler.

Despite the level line ups, PSG would be unable to equalize, and Lyon advanced to the finals.

Wendie Renard was able to convert off a set piece for her club again today, proving once again that she is the most lethal center back on goal in the world. She sits at over 100 goals at the moment. Amel Majri put in another solid shift for Lyon on the top line after putting in work at outside back for the semifinal. Majri was responsible for the service into the for Renard's game winner. Marie-Antoinette Katoto, PSG: The PSG striker had another good performance for club today despite not being on the scoresheet. She caused some problems for the backline, getting into dangerous spaces. RATING: 7.5

Amel Majri, Lyon: Perhaps Lyon's most versatile player and she's showing it during their Champions League run. Putting a shift in at outside back during the quarterfinal, while playing higher during the semifinal, and having a role in crucial goals for her team. RATING: 8.5

Dzsenifer Marozsan, Lyon: The German midfielder was strong once again the pitch for her club. Despite PSG's early attempts to play in a high press to try and bring the pressure to Lyon, Marozasn was often disrupting the opposition and ultimately helped Lyon maintain the possession and tempo of the match. RATING: 9

A look ahead

  • Wolfsburg vs. Lyon: Sunday at 2 p.m. ET (CBS All Access): Two competitive teams will likely put on a show in a battle for the championship title, as they meet for a third time in the final. Lyon is vying for their fifth consecutive Champions League title.
