South Carolina's James Reese missed his first five 3-pointers over the first 44 minutes vs. Ole Miss on Tuesday night. But the graduate transfer guard picked an opportune moment to finally convert his first shot of the night from deep.
Reese's heave from just across the half-court line at the buzzer in overtime somehow found the net after hitting the backboard to lift the Gamecocks to a 77-74 win over the Rebels. The improbable shot completed an impressive rally for South Carolina, which trailed 49-41 with 11:39 remaining in regulation. A pair of late 3-pointers Erik Stevenson helped force overtime, and the Gamecocks held Ole Miss without a field goal for the final 2:54 of the extra period.
South Carolina improves to 15-10 (6-7 SEC) and it was the fourth straight loss for Ole Miss (12-14, 3-10). Much of the credit for Reese's game-winning shot belongs to fellow guard Jermaine Couisnard, who delivered an an in-bounds pass that hit Reese in stride as he shook free of defender Matthew Murrell.
Stevenson led South Carolina with 17 points, while Keyshawn Bryant and Devin Carter contributed 16 each. Murrell and Jarkel Joiner led Ole Miss with 18 each.
