Coaches have never been under a more meticulous media microscope than now, and so when a college coach in particular says he's going to "[expletive] kill" one of his players, even in the heat of the moment, it's going to make immediate headlines.
Vanderbilt's 73-65 road win at rival Tennessee on Thursday night prompted Vandy freshman Wade Baldwin to mockingly clap in the face of Vols players as they walked off the floor.
This prompted a Tennessee assistant to let Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings what had just happened. From there, as you can see in the videos posted, Stallings lost it. He teed off on Baldwin, who reportedly has been a work in progress for the Commodores' coaching staff this season.
Stallings said in the postgame press conference that Baldwin's actions were not acceptable whatsoever.
Afterward, Stallings released this statement on his reaction.
"After the game, an incident occurred in which I need to apologize for. One of our players acted inappropriately and violated what we believe is good sportsmanship following the game. In my haste to resolve the situation, I made a very inappropriate comment. While obviously it was not meant literally, it was still inappropriate. I apologized to the player immediately following the game, although displaying good sportsmanship is of the highest priority in our program."
