Jim McElwain will be able to hold onto a quality weapon for his offensive arsenal in his first season in Gainesville.

After transferring from Virginia, fifth-year senior tight end Jake McGee missed the final 11 games of his first season with Florida after breaking two bones in his left leg in his debut appearance with the Gators. To return for a second campaign in The Swamp, McGee would need the NCAA's approval for an extra year to exhaust his eligibility.

McGee tweeted Tuesday that will be receiving that sixth year:

Florida later confirmed the NCAA's approval of McGee's waiver to CBSSports.com.

McGee was Virginia's leading receiver in 2013, finishing that season with 43 catches for 395 yards and two touchdowns. He arrived at Florida as a graduate student transfer with just the single season of eligibility remaining.

McGee's de facto addition would be a major one for a Florida roster that saw both its most-productive (using that term liberally) tight ends graduate following the 2014 season.
