With bowl eligibility directly in its crosshairs, Miami travels to play heated rival Florida State in an afternoon showdown. The Hurricanes edged Georgia Tech 33-30 in Week 10 behind two scores in the fourth quarter to win a third consecutive game. Running back Jaylan Knighton rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Florida State lost 28-14 to No. 16 NC State after allowing Wolfpack quarterback Devin Leary to throw for 314 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Seminoles mustered just 271 total yards and 1.4 yards per carry against one of the ACC's better defenses to fall to 3-6 with three potential bowl teams left on the schedule.

Miami holds a narrow 35-30 advantage against the Seminoles all-time and has won four straight games. Most recently, then-No. 12 Miami crushed Florida State 52-10 in 2020 behind 332 total yards from former starting quarterback D'Eriq King.

Miami vs. Florida State: Need to know

Youth movement: It's been a trying season for Miami, which entered the season at No. 13 in the AP Top 25. After getting waxed by Alabama and Michigan State, the Hurricanes lost tight matchups against Virginia and NC State. But since losing five key veteran starters to injuries -- including King -- the Hurricanes have embraced a youth movement. Over that stretch, Miami has won three straight games against NC State, No. 21 Pitt and Georgia Tech.

Pass rushing machine: While Florida State is still trying to find its identity on both sides of the ball, defensive end Jermaine Johnson has quietly developed into one of the nation's best edge rushers. Johnson leads the ACC with 8 sacks and 17 QB hurries, per Pro Football Focus. For his efforts, Johnson earned a spot on the CBS Sports Midseason All-America team

QB of the future: Miami freshman QB Tyler Van Dyke only entered the lineup because of injuries to the Hurricanes' top two quarterbacks, but has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young signal-callers in the country. Van Dyke has led the program to a 4-2 record, including three straight wins. Over the winning streak, Van Dyke has thrown for 1,140 yards, 10 touchdowns and 1 interception while completing 72.5% of his passes.

Miami vs. Florida State prediction, picks

Miami has found a formula that works over the past three weeks and can reach bowl eligibility with a win, a big moment after the early-season struggles. Florida State has some nice playmakers on each side, but there's little reason to believe the Seminoles can keep up with The U's young talent. Prediction: Miami (-2.5)
