  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Waived by Flyers
    By RotoWire Staff

Varone was waived by Philadelphia on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Varone hasn't made a meaningful impact in the NHL since entering the league in 2013-14, notching 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 50 career contests, so this move hardly comes as a surprise. The 26-year-old forward is nothing more than an organizational depth player at this stage in his career.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Signs deal Saturday
    By RotoWire Staff

Varone penned a two-year, two-way contract with the Flyers on Saturday. Varone recorded 51 points in 65 minor-league outings this year, but has never been able to find his scoring touch in the NHL. The 26-year-old has played in 50 games split between Buffalo and Ottawa, but has tallied a mere five goals and five helpers in those appearances. If the center performs well with AHL Lehigh Valley, he could find himself suiting up with Philly later in the season.

  • Senators' Philip Varone: Moves up to NHL
    By RotoWire Staff

Varone was recalled from AHL Binghamton on Friday. The fifth-rounder from the 2009 draft hasn't taken advantage of his call-ups this season, managing just one shot and a minus-2 rating through six games. Of course, there's only so much the pivot can do with an average ice time value of 8:26. He may be utilized in Saturday's road game against the Avalanche since established scoring center Kyle Turris (finger) may not play.

  • Senators' Philip Varone: Reassigned to AHL
    By RotoWire Staff

Varone was returned to AHL Binghamton on Tuesday. While he didn't hit the scoresheet in his last two NHL games, Varone was unleashed on the power play for 1:42 in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Lightning and managed to avoid falling on the undesirable side of the plus-minus rating. The addition of Alex Burrows via a trade from Vancouver seems to have hurt Varone's chances of staying up with the parent club this time around, but he should at least remain a top call-up option when injuries hurt the team up front.

  • Senators' Philip Varone: Moves up to big club
    By RotoWire Staff

Varone was recalled from AHL Binghamton on Saturday. The Senators are wisely calling up reinforcements with star wingers Mike Hoffman (lower body), Bobby Ryan (finger) and Mark Stone (neck) all injured ahead of an important divisional clash with the Panthers on Sunday evening. Calling up Varone was a no-brainer, as he leads the Baby Sens with 38 points (13 goals, 25 assists) in 48 games.
