  • Philip Varone: Headed for KHL

Varone agreed to a contract with KHL club Barys Nur-Sultan on Thursday, per his agent Aljosa Pilko.

Varone split time between AHL Laval and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year, recording four goals and 15 assists in 33 contests. The 29-year-old center has logged 97 games in the NHL for Buffalo, Ottawa and Philadelphia in which he's registered eight goals, nine assists and 80 shots while averaging just 9:53 of ice time. Once the AHL season starts up, Varone could garner interest from NHL clubs who want him on hand for potential call-ups.

  • Penguins' Philip Varone: Brought in via trade

Varone, along with Riley Barber, was acquired by the Penguins from the Canadiens on Thursday in a swap for Joseph Blandisi and Jake Lucchini.

Varone hasn't appeared in an NHL game this season, though he did log 47 contests for the Flyers in 2018-19, notching three goals and four helpers. With the Rocket, the 29-year-old managed just 14 points this year, though injuries have limited him to a mere 27 contests.

  • Canadiens' Philip Varone: Signs one-year deal

Varone penned a one-year, two-way contract with the Habs on Wednesday worth $700,000 at the NHL level.

Varone dominated the minors the past three seasons, as he racked up 149 points in 161 minor-league contests. The center appeared in 47 games for the Flyers last season, in which he tallied three goals, four assists and 34 shots while averaging 7:55 of ice time. Despite the two-way nature of his deal, Varone could secure a more permanent spot on the 23-man roster with a strong showing in training camp.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Eighteen-game pointless run

Varone finished the 2018-19 season with three goals, seven points, 34 shots on net, eight PIM and a minus-2 rating in 47 games.

Overall, that's not bad, but a vast majority of that production came before the middle of February. Varone went scoreless in his final 18 NHL games and only had 15 shots on net during that stretch. So while owners can be pleased Varone set career highs in the games played, goals and assists categories, it still feels as though he left something to be desired.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Struck in pointless streak

Varone has gone pointless with six PIM and 12 shots on net in the last 16 games.

The 28-year-old has been in and out of the lineup during his scoreless streak, so his pointless run dates back to Feb. 19. But even if Varone doesn't post another point this season, 2018-19 has still been one of his better efforts. He's played a career-high 45 games and tallied career bests with three goals, seven points and a plus-1 rating.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Sits as healthy scratch

Varone sat as a healthy scratch in the 4-2 loss to the Islanders on Saturday.

The 28-year-old hasn't reached the scoresheet since Feb. 17, going 14 straight without a point. As a result, the Flyers elected to scratch Varone in a must-win situation Saturday. The Flyers are still in the race after the loss, but they might have to run the table to earn a wild-card spot. Varone has three goals and seven points in 43 games this season.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Extends scoreless streak

Varone, who missed the scoresheet Friday against the Maple Leafs, hasn't scored a point in 11 straight games.

The 28-year-old had a decent start to the 2018-19 campaign with three goals and seven points in his first 29 contests, but he's gone completely silent since the middle of February. The shots on goal have dried up too, and Varone is having a hard time seeing 10 minutes of ice time most nights. He has three goals and seven points in 40 appearances this season.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Going quiet

Varone has no points with a plus-1 rating, four PIM and four shots in the last six games.

Prior to this dry spell, Varone was playing well, having scored two goals and six points with a plus-5 rating in 11 games. But he's reverted back to producing very little, and he's not even getting many pucks to the net. Varone is still experiencing the best NHL season of his career, but the 28-year-old has three goals and seven points with 23 shots on net in 35 games.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Playing well lately

Varone has two goals and six points with a plus-5 rating in the last 12 games since returning from the All-Star break.

That's not a ton of production for standard leagues, but prior to the All-Star break, Varone had just one point with a minus-4 rating in 18 contests. Varone also went into the break on a 12-game pointless streak. Overall, Varone has posted career highs across the board, including in games played -- three goals, seven points and 30 contests.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Strong effort in big win

Varone scored a goal and an assist with a plus-3 rating in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Ducks.

The Flyers' fourth line got the offense rolling, as Varone notched both his points by the 11-minute mark of the first period. The 28-year-old has only five points on the season, but four of them (two goals, two helpers) have come in the last seven games. He hasn't played even 10 minutes in any of those contests, however, and without a better line placement, the floor could fall out of his fantasy value at any moment.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Playing regularly

Varone has one goal in his last three games, giving him two on the season.

Once considered a career minor leaguer, Varone is a regular in the Flyers lineup now, and he's just seven appearances shy of tying a career high for NHL games played during a season. That's a great individual accomplishment, but owners are still scraping the bottom of the barrel if they add Varone to their roster. He has two goals with no assists, a minus-3 rating, 15 shots on net, 11 hits and nine blocks in 21 games this season.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Scoreless in six straight

Varone doesn't have any points and possesses a minus-1 rating in the last six games.

The 28-year-old scored shortly after getting recalled just before Christmas, but he hasn't done anything since then. In 12 games, Varone only has the one goal along with 10 shots on net, eight hits and three blocks. The most he's ever played in an NHL season is 28 games, so there's not a large enough sample size to make any determinations of what Varone could produce if he continues to receive playing time. Still, owners would have to be very desperate to deploy Varone at this juncture.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Called up Thursday

Varone was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

Varone was summoned to the parent club in the wake of news that Jori Lehtera has been prosecuted in a cocaine ring and will stand trial Dec. 31. The Flyers could use Jordan Weal as a fourth-line center, but Dave Isaac of the Courier Post reports that Varone was the one to show up in that spot in Thursday's a.m. session. Varone has accumulated 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) through 22 games for the AHL's Phantoms this season.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Sent down to minors

Varone was reassigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

Varone's demotion could be temporary and simply part of roster shuffling ahead of the Christmas roster freeze. Once the freeze goes into effect, the club can still recall him and can exceed the 23-man roster limit in doing so. In his four NHL appearances this season, the center failed to register a point while logging 8:07 of ice time. Without an increased role, the Ontario native won't offer much in terms of fantasy value.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Slots in Sunday

Varone will make his season debut in Sunday's road game versus the Jets.

Varone hasn't played an NHL game since the 2016 season, when he suited up seven times for Ottawa but failed to record a point. He's had success with AHL Lehigh Valley this year, racking up 28 points in 22 games. Varone will work on the fourth line.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Summoned by parent club

The Flyers recalled Varone from AHL Lehigh Valley on Friday.

Varone has been highly productive in the minors this season, racking up 11 goals and 28 points in 22 appearances. The 28-year-old forward's first opportunity to make his Flyers debut will arrive Saturday against the Sabres.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Waived by Flyers

Varone was waived by Philadelphia on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Varone hasn't made a meaningful impact in the NHL since entering the league in 2013-14, notching 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 50 career contests, so this move hardly comes as a surprise. The 26-year-old forward is nothing more than an organizational depth player at this stage in his career.

  • Flyers' Philip Varone: Signs deal Saturday

Varone penned a two-year, two-way contract with the Flyers on Saturday.

Varone recorded 51 points in 65 minor-league outings this year, but has never been able to find his scoring touch in the NHL. The 26-year-old has played in 50 games split between Buffalo and Ottawa, but has tallied a mere five goals and five helpers in those appearances. If the center performs well with AHL Lehigh Valley, he could find himself suiting up with Philly later in the season.

  • Senators' Philip Varone: Headed back to minors

Varone was reassigned to AHL Binghamton on Monday.

Varone's services were required for Saturday's game against the Avalanche, but with Kyle Turris (finger) expected back Tuesday, he will rejoin the club's AHL affiliate. Even if Varone makes his way back to the top level this season, it's unlikely he will obtain enough fantasy value to be worthy of fantasy ownership in most leagues.

  • Senators' Philip Varone: Moves up to NHL

Varone was recalled from AHL Binghamton on Friday.

The fifth-rounder from the 2009 draft hasn't taken advantage of his call-ups this season, managing just one shot and a minus-2 rating through six games. Of course, there's only so much the pivot can do with an average ice time value of 8:26. He may be utilized in Saturday's road game against the Avalanche since established scoring center Kyle Turris (finger) may not play.
