The Yankees' plan with Derek Jeter is believed to be to give him one extra day to rest and activate him from the disabled list Sunday. That's the hope, anyway.
Jeter will play in a simulated game Saturday, the day he was eligible to come off the disabled list, and if all goes well Sunday will be the day.
Jeter told writers before Friday's game that he felt well enough to play. A doctor was expected to examine him early this evening, but no announcement was forthcoming immediately after he was checked out.
He tested his healing quad by running, and appears to have come out of it OK.
Jeter is eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday after suffering a Grade 1 strain of his quad in his only game as a Yankee this year.
The team, which needs all the offensive help it can get, acquired Jeter's old teammate Alfonso Soriano on Friday.
