The Cincinnati Reds activated a pair of pitchers before Monday's game in Houston. The club has announced that starter Johnny Cueto and reliever Sean Marshall have both been activated from the 60-day disabled list.
As corresponding moves, pitchers Kyle Lotzkar and Josh Ravin have been designated for assignment.
Cueto, 27, has been dealing with a lat issue through most of the season. He's only been able to make nine starts, going 4-2 with a 3.33 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 41 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings. Last season, Cueto finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting with a 19-9 record, 2.78 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.
The move was expected, as Cueto has been slotted to start Monday's game since Sunday.
Marshall, 31, has only made 11 appearances this season due to a left shoulder sprain. He has a 2.57 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and seven strikeouts in seven innings. When healthy, Marshall is one of the more effective lefties in baseball.
The Reds enter Monday with a 4.5 game lead over the Nationals for the second wild card while trailing the Pirates and Cardinals by 3.5 games in the NL Central.
