As expected, the White Sox have picked up their 2014 club option for right-hander Matt Lindstrom, the team announced. He'll earn $4 million next season.

Lindstrom, 33, has very quietly been one of the best relievers in baseball over the last three seasons. His 185 appearances, 148 ERA+ and 3.3 WAR are all top 40 marks among all bullpeners since 2011.

In 60 2/3 innings across 76 appearances this season, Lindstrom posted a 3.12 ERA (138 ERA+) with a 1.43 WHIP and 2.00 K/BB. Only four pitchers appearanced in more games in 2013.

The White Sox have a young bullpen core led by Addison Reed and Nate Jones. Lindstrom gives them a veteran arm for the late innings.
