Dale Earnhardt Jr. is getting behind the wheel once again, for real this time. The former NASCAR Cup Series driver is set to make his 2020 on-track debut at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the Xfinity Series Hooters 250.

He was set to make his debut on March 21 at this exact race prior to NASCAR shuffling its 2020 schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic. Based on the comments he made before that huge changes was announced, it's safe to assume he has been itching to drive like he never has before. NASCAR released the paint scheme Earnhardt would race in back in January.

"I really miss racing. I really miss driving, and it's getting worse," Earnhardt said back in February. "I thought as I got out of the car and the further I got from my full-time career, the less that would bother me, but it actually is getting worse for some reason. I really look forward to getting some seat time, smelling the smells and hearing the noises and just enjoying being in the car."

Earnhardt Jr. has been a bit of racing, just in a virtual setting. In late March, Denny Hamlin came from behind to defeat Earnhardt in a virtual race that took place in a recreation of the very track Earnhardt Jr. is set to return to on-track racing, Homestead-Miami.

The 15-time NMPA Most Popular Driver Award winner retired from being a full-time driver in the Cup Series back in 2017.
