Liverpool vs. Everton score: Reds settle for scoreless draw in Premier League return

Liverpool's inevitable title celebration will have to wait a a little bit longer. The Reds drew 0-0 with Everton on Sunday in the Merseyside derby, meaning that Jurgen Klopp's team no longer can win the league on Monday. The Reds are 23 points clear of second-place Manchester City before City wraps up Matchday 30 on Monday vs. Burnley.

The result also means that the club might not be guaranteed the title with a win Wednesday against Crystal Palace. In order to win the league on Wednesday, Manchester City would have to drop points against Burnley. Relying on only their results, the Reds need four more points to win the title.

Klopp's club produced just three shots on goal and might have been fortunate to earn the draw as Everton hit the post late. The reigning Champions League winners have now won just two of their last seven games in all competitions.

ALISSON!

A massive save on a good hit from Calvert-Lewins, and then it is Davies who hits the rebound off the left post! Almost!

Everton knocking on the door

Everton goes on the counter and Richarlison has a good look on goal but sends it over. Poorly hit. Still level at 0-0.

51' Quality look for Reds

Little one-two with Keita and Firmino sees the Brazilian volley with a good look inside the box, but it goes well wide.

At the break

Nothing doing in this first half for either. Just a shot each, but the Reds ended the half much stronger and threatening.

10' Solid start for Everton

An interesting, tense first 10 minutes. Everton with the only shot on goal. The Reds are a little sloppy in the early going.

Storylines

Liverpool: If the Reds win their next two games, they will win the league. That includes Wednesday's match against Crystal Palace. But can they revert to their old form? Before the stoppage this team struggled, losing four of its last six in all competitions including twice to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. They've had months to regain focus to finish out the season strong, and on Sunday we'll see if the sharpness is there with a healthy squad.

Everton: The Toffees were contending for European places before failing to win any of their last three. Those matches, however, were against Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea. With a favorable upcoming schedule after this one, a Europe League spot isn't out of the question, but they will need to get the defense more compact and quick to clear. Everton enters having conceded in each of its last seven games.
